General Information
Understanding and Including Members with Disabilities and Their Families
“As I have loved you, . . . love one another,” the Savior taught (John 13:34). During His ministry, the Savior showed great compassion for people with disabilities. As His disciples, “it is our opportunity and our responsibility to follow the example of Jesus in loving . . . those with disabilities” (First Presidency statement, Church News, Apr. 29, 1989, 7). As we do so, we can be a healing influence, offering hope, understanding, and light, as Jesus did.
Theme
“And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are called according to his purpose” (Romans 8:28).
These words from the Apostle Paul give us the comforting counsel that although trials and tribulations are part of mortality, we can find strength in the following:
- Faith in our Heavenly Father and His Son Jesus Christ is the foundation for all life’s experience.
- All things work together for good “to them that love God.”
- God has a plan for each of His children, both for mortality and for eternity.
- These assignments are fulfilled according to God’s purposes.
